Oktober’FEAST
Authentic German Food in Denver
by Nick Mangiapane
In honor of Oktoberfest, we decided to feature German cuisine.
Opening nearly two decades ago, Cafe Berlin continues to treat
Denver to a true German dining experience. It recently opened at
it’s new 16th Street location downtown. From the decor to the
hostess’ authentic German dress, it seemed as if we were
transported right into Germany. Cafe Berlin offers a beer
sampler, so you can try five different German beers in mini
glasses. It’s a great way to find your favorite beer without
ordering full pints of each.
The meals came with a fantastic
tomato salad to start off with. The fresh blend of the tomatoes,
onions, and cilantro was truly delightful. It could almost be
comparable to the flavors of salsa. Cafe Berlin specializes in
their Wiener Schnitzel. Wiener Schnitzel is breaded veal
smothered in sautéed onions. It comes with lemon wedges to add
even more flavor. Served on the side was tasty German fried
potatoes as well as a wonderful sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was
the perfect blend of sweet and sour flavors. Cafe Berlin prides
itself in keeping its meals authentically German.
We ended the
meal with a fantastic dessert - a shot of Apple Schnapps. It’s
not your normal dessert, but it sure was a great end to a
fantastic meal. If you’re looking for a superb plate of German
food this October, look no further than downtown at Cafe Berlin.
