Mantra |
 |
"If one advances
confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life
which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common
hours." -Thoreau |
|
| We live by a simple rule,
life should be more fun. So when our visitors get
home from work (or when
they're daydreaming at work) we use the Internet to supply them
with fun places to go, new things to try and exciting places to
live and explore. Regardless of whether they are looking for a
night out at the movies or a nightclub, sharp and trendy
clothing, a cool new place to eat
or stay, or even a snazzy new home or apartment to live in, one
of the Mark's List family of pop-culture web sites is there to
hook them up. |
| |
|
How did Mark's List grow so large and become the
creative leader of Florida's LGBT community?
|
|
By sticking to a few timeless principles. First,
we strive to be daring, first and different.
Second, we relentlessly look for ways to improve
our business model. Third, we focus on being the
best at one method of communication, the
Internet. And finally, we diligently work with
our supporters to coach them on new ideas and to
help make them as successful as we possibly can.
Their success breeds our success. |
|
 |
What is the Mark's List Pop-Culture Media
Network? |
|
|
Seven years ago we started building an opt-in
Email subscriber list. We sent out a weekly email telling our
subscribers what was going on in bars and nightclubs in Fort
Lauderdale and Miami. Soon after people began asking us why we
didn't offer the same information online. So we built a web site
full of bar information. Pretty soon people from out of town
started asking us for restaurant recommendations, so our dining
guide was created. Then visitors wanted to find hotels and our
accommodations list was born. A short time later we realized
they would want to come back to the website after visiting if we
were posting photos of the events they had attended, and so we
created The Mad Paparazzi. Finally, we looked around at a wide
variety of other entertainment options that would fit in and we
got into the movie business posting trailers, reviews and movie
show times.
Eventually Mark's List got so big that we
realized we could build companion websites and display the same
information in different ways targeting different
audiences and Movies and Gossip and Surprising Dining were born.
What's next? Well, we'll continue to evolve and grow and offer
the most exciting and interesting entertainment content online.
And yes, we do have a few more tricks up our sleeve. You'll just
have to wait and see what's next! |

Advertising Package Information |
|
|

It's not by accident that Mark's
List has become so influential in the LGBT community, it's by design.
This
book, by some of the folks at RoperASW (the people that bring you
presidential polls among other things) is the foundation for what we have
built here at Mark's List. The Influentials espouses a simple theory, it's
not how many people your advertising reaches, it's who. One in ten people
are part of a group identified as the Early Majority, the people who like to
be the center of the groups they socialize in. The Early Majority are the
people using word of mouth and simply talking about things they like to
their friends. They are the one in ten that everyone is listening to.
Influencing this group's behavior is the holy grail of marketing. Mark's
List speaks to the Early Majority using current methods of social and
pop-culture communication. |
Most advertisers choose to select from one of the package deals
found in this online media kit.

List advertisers. Our sales reps are knowledgeable and trained

About the Social Networking sites |
Mark's List has played an important
role in the Florida LGBT social scene for over five years.
The past three years have seen explosive growth that
have turned us into the
Internet's highest ranked
destination for information on LGBT Florida.
A Landing Page on Mark's List
includes your business in our directories of places
to shop and stay, restaurants to dine in, nightclubs
to enjoy and other things to do along with general
information organized around each major Florida
city.
Many businesses use their Mark's
Landing page as a website. The page can be used to
place orders, sell tickets or merchandise, display
photos and do virtually anything you can do with a
website.
Recently Mark's List has begun to
expand, building new specialty websites geared
toward specific audiences straight and LGBT.
Examples include Movies and Gossip and Surprising
Dining. As these new websites are unveiled
appropriate Landing Pages will automatically be
included.
Anyone can access Mark's List. The
key to our success is that people are required to
seek us out. Once they find us and stay, this
automatically demonstrates a high degree of interest
in what we offer. |
Simplicity has played an important
role in Twitter's success. People are eager to
connect with other people and Twitter makes that
simple. Twitter asks one question, "What are you
doing?" Answers must be under 140 characters in
length and can be sent via mobile texting, instant
message, or the web. The
result of using Twitter to stay connected with
friends, relatives, and coworkers is that you have a
sense of what folks are up to but you are not
expected to respond to any updates unless you want
to. This means you can step in and out of the flow
of information as it suits you and it never queues
up with increasing demand of your attention.
Additionally, users are very much in control of
whose updates they receive, when they receive them,
and on what device. For example, we provide settings
for scheduling Twitter to automatically turn off at
dinnertime and users can switch off Twitter updates
at any point. |
Facebook's mission is to give people
the power to share and make the world more open and
connected. Millions of
people use Facebook everyday to keep up with
friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share
links and videos, and learn more about the people
they meet.
Facebook is far more complex and
time consuming than Twitter. The Facebook world can
be all encompassing, offering many opportunities to
network and socialize using photos, links and video.
The second key difference between
Facebook and Twitter is that Facebook requires
people to mutually friend each other. The agreement
between the two parties must be reciprocal. Some
social networking gurus think that this
automatically makes the relationships less
meaningful than Twitter.
|
Founded in February 2005, YouTube is the leader in
online video, and the premier destination to watch
and share original videos worldwide through a Web
experience. YouTube allows people to easily upload
and share video clips on
their website and
across the Internet through websites, mobile
devices, blogs, and email.
Everyone can watch videos on YouTube.
People can see first-hand accounts of current
events, find videos about their hobbies and
interests, and discover the quirky and unusual. As
more people capture special moments on video,
YouTube is empowering them to become the
broadcasters of tomorrow.

Our Final Thoughts |
|
|
 Now
that we've had your attention for a while, we would like to
offer a few short parting thoughts.
Back in the day when newspapers, television, radio and magazines
ruled the advertising world, people with businesses to promote
had it easy. Simply choose media that reached x number of people
and you knew that y number of people (say 20% of x for example)
would come knocking at your door.
These advertisers got lazy and bored their audiences with dumb
commercials and messages that caused people to stop paying
attention. It got so bad that people even invented gadgets, like
Tivo, to cut the ads out.
How
do you reach people that are no longer paying attention? Hmmm...
"Why doesn't everyone want to watch a commercial or read an ad
about my new line of men's underwear?"
You
have to make your advertising spontaneous, creative, playful,
fun and interesting. You have to completely rethink your
approach and not only step outside of the box, you have to
destroy the box. When you accomplish this you will have peoples
attention again.
If
you're the kind of person that likes to read, we recommend the
two books above. They have nothing to do with advertising in any
kind of media. Blue Ocean Strategy helps you identify
opportunities so that you can move out of the shark infested
waters that most businesses compete in and find yourself a
little blue ocean filled with uncontested calm water to operate
in. Breakthrough Thinking puts forth ways to solve
problems for good and inspire others to think creatively along
with you. We found these books very helpful when we were looking
for new ways to grow our business and move into a place of
relative tranquility. |
